Data Recovery is a very tricky business. Period. A Hard Drive has many Moving parts and works much like how a record spins on a turntable and a needle reads the data. There are several ways a hard drive can be bad. It can be what is known as mechanically or logically defective. When the issue is mechanical, that is just what it says. Usually, either the disk itself will not spin or the head with the needle that pivots to move across the disk either locks in place or fails.
 When a drive is logically bad, this means that the drive is mechanically sound, but has a logical error. This can be something such as an invalid MBR (master boot record) or Boot.ini, corrupted partition, corrupted RAID Array, ect...

 We have had about a dozen or so drives that we have received from clients that were mechanically bad. When this happens, their still are options for repair. Usually, these, we recommend you to a third-party (in the Mainland US) who can recover the data from even a mechanically failled drive. We have had two clients go through with this service. It is VERY expensive and we usually only recommend it if the data was critical. Out of the two, both received their data back when all was said and done.

If we are unable to recover any data, we will recommend you to a mainland company who can recover the data and their will be no fee from AlohaTechs.com for this service provided we recovered no data.
